Alan A. Furman

Alan A. Furman, 73, passed away peacefully after his battle with lymphoma on Saturday, April 26, 2025 with his family by his side. Alan was born on July 7, 1951, in Beloit, WI, the son of Harold Jr. and Helen (Anderegg) Furman. Alan was a 1969 graduate of F. J. Turner High School in Beloit, Wisconsin. He graduated with his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin Madison in 1974. He graduated with his Master of Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin Whitewater in 1982 and where he was elected to the Whitewater Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma.

Alan married Mary Jane Highland on June 27, 1981, at Church By the Side of the Road in Rockton, IL.

After graduation from UW Madison, Alan worked for Beloit Corporation and Beloit Power Systems before joining Sundstrand Corporation in 1983. His young family was relocated to San Diego, CA from 1986 to 1991. He moved back to Rockford and became Director of Contracts and then Worldwide Business Practices Officer before he retired in 2014. He was President of the Rockford National Contract Management Association in 2001 and served on the Milestone Board of Directors.

Alan was an avid fan of the Packers, Badgers and Brewers fan. He loved vacations Up North with his family and traveling with Mary and friends. Alan especially enjoyed playing with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed friendly competitions in various sports over the years with friends and especially with his brother-in-law, Neal.

Alan is survived by Mary, his wife of 43 years; daughter Sarah (James) Martinez; daughter Samantha (Jacob) Sheary; grandchildren Evelyn and Arthur Martinez and Scotland and McKenna Sheary; sister Leanne (Neal) Furman; brother Jon; Mary's seven siblings. He was preceded in by death by his parents and son, Scott.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of funeral service, 11:00 a.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road. Burial to follow at Arlington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, consider memorials made to the Rockford Rescue Mission, 715 W. State St, Rockford, IL 61102.
