Alan "Al" Paul Hamburg

Alan “Al” Paul Hamburg, 71, Cherry Valley, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2022, in his home. He was born in Oceanside, CA, on March 14, 1951, the son of Paul and Doris (Sahlen) Hamburg. He was a graduate of Winnebago High School class of 1969. Al received his Bachelor of Arts degree in machine design technology in 1974, from Bradley University in Peoria. He spent most of his career as Senior Test Engineer for various aerospace programs at Sundstrand Corporation, Aviation Division in Rockford and later worked for Rolls Royce Gear Systems in Park City, Utah. Al then returned to Hamilton Sundstrand in 2000 and worked there until his retirement. Al enjoyed his trips to out west especially to Arco, Idaho where he grew up and he still had friends there. He was a Star Trek buff and was an avid collector of motorcycles and old cars. He also was a model railroader with his huge Lionel train layout.

Survived by his sister, Darla (Michael) Kovanda; his niece, Katherine (Ryan) Gallagher and his nephew, Nicholas (Kelsey Litterer) Kovanda. Predeceased by his parents and his sister, Debra Hamburg.

A memorial visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford.
