Veletta V. Englund

Veletta V. Englund, 91, of Rockford, passed away at her daughter’s home on Thursday, May 19, 2022.

Veletta was born in Leland, IL on September 19, 1930, daughter of Richard and Edna (Johnson) Hamilton. She graduated from West High School in Rockford, Class of 1948. Veletta married Charles T. “Chuck” Englund on March 20, 1948 at St. Patrick Church, Rockford. She was a lifetime member of the Cathedral of St. Peter where she was also involved with the St. Anne Society. Veletta was a proud member of many organizations including the Retired and Senior Volunteers from 1997, Friends of Rockford Public Library from 1994 and membership chair from 2006, Rockford Ostomy Association from 1973 where she was president from 1981-1982. She enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing and made many clothes for her daughters. Most of all, Veletta cherished her time spent with family and loved ones. She will be dearly missed.

Those left to honor Veletta’s memory include her children, Tom (Debbie) Englund, Karen (Steve) Hinde, Nancy (Bruno) Yankus, Diane Solon, Dave (Joanne) Englund, Jim Englund (Joanne Borochaner), Charlie (Beth) Englund, Susan Englund, Bill (Lori) Englund, John Englund and Sarah Pierce; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; brother, Neil Hamilton. She is predeceased by her parents; her husband, Chuck Englund; grandson, John Hinde and sons-in-law, Patrick Solon and Keven Pierce.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Fairhaven Retirement Center and Northern Illinois Hospice; especially Cynthia, Sandy, Rachel, Robin and Chaplain Roland from Hospice.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 3910 N Rockton Ave. Rockford, IL 61103. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 3, 2022 at the Cathedral of St. Peter, 1243 N Church St. Rockford, IL 61103. Final resting place will conclude in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Winnebago, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Veletta's name to the Poor Clare Colletine Nuns of Rockford, 2111 S Main St. Rockford, IL 61102.
