Reverend Robert A. Balog

Reverend Robert A. Balog 74, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Presence Pine View St. Charles IL. Father was born on June 4, 1943, in Aurora, Illinois, to Stephen J. and Teresa Kabai Balog.
Father Balog attended Marmion Academy, Aurora, Illinois, St. Ambrose University, Davenport, Iowa; Mt. St. Bernard Seminary, Dubuque, Iowa; and Aquinas Institute of Theology, Dubuque, Iowa. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 28, 1972 by Most Reverend ArthurJ. O’Neill.
After ordination, Father’s first assignment was as Parochial Vicar at Holy Family Parish, Rockford, IL. His other assignments were as Parochial Vicar at St. Mary Parish, McHenry, IL; Parochial Vicar at St. Bernadette Parish, Rockford, IL; Parochial Vicar at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Rockford, IL; Administrator of St. Mary Parish, Tampico, IL; Secretary to the Bishop and Diocesan Master of Ceremonies; Diocesan Director of the Phoenix Ministry; Administrator then Pastor of St. John the Baptist Parish, Johnsburg,
IL; and Chaplain for the Knights of Columbus #653, Freeport, IL. Father retired as pastor of St. Mary Parish, McHenry, IL July 1, 2014 but continued to assist at parishes when needed.
Father is predeceased by his parents and his brother Stephen, Jr. He is survived by his brother Ron (Dianne Thomas), nephews Greg (Chris) Balog and Rick (Lorie) Balog, several great-nieces and great-nephews. He also leaves behind many close brother priests and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at 11:00AM at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Rockford, Illinois. Visitation will be from 4PM-7:00PM Monday, April 9 at the church with rosary at 7:00PM and visitation April 10 from 9:30AM-10:45AM at the church prior to the Mass. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Aurora, Illinois.
