Lawrence "Larry" Carlson

ROCKFORD – Lawrence “Larry” Carlson of Rockford passed away at 9:15 pm. Friday, February 25, 2022, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. Born April 8, 1943; the son of Chester J. & Clara H. (Hoff) Carlson. He attended Rockford East High School. He worked for Chrysler for thirty-seven years, where he also ran his “coffee and snack shop”. Married Judith "Judy" Carlson in Rockford on November 16, 1962. Larry was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, the 85 Chicago Bears, dinners with his friends at the Cherry Valley Café, his special times visiting Baumann Park where he sat on the park bench dedicated in memory of his beloved wife, Judy of fifty-two years. In addition, he loved spending time with his family and his grandchildren, and their drives with Pa. He will always be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and a friend of many. A man who never complained even with all the turmoil’s he endured. Larry was a giving person, and would say his Larry “isms”, especially, “God never gives you more than you can handle”.
Survivors include sons, Brian (Lorraine) Carlson and Brad (Kimberly) Carlson; grandchildren, Emily and Stephen Carlson, Hanna, Lea, and Ella Carlson; brothers, Ken Carlson and Curtis “Corky” (Carolyn) Carlson; brother-in-law, Gary G. (Ryan) Carlson; sister-in-law, Diane (Dennis) Sias; numerous nieces and nephews; very special family friends, Jennifer (Jeff) Cremer and Bradley Horine of Texas. Predeceased by wife, Judy; children, Terri Lyn, Stephen, and Douglas Carlson; parents.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 7, 2022 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Visitation from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home, and Monday from 10 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carpenters Place.
