John Dal Santo, 98, went to be with his bride on February 23, 2020, their 74th wedding anniversary.
John was born on April 27, 1921 in Caltrano, Italy to Abraham and Catherine (Matteazzi) Dal Santo. He was a 1940 graduate of Rockford Central High School. He served in the United States Air Force for 22 months. John married Ann Piai, the love of his life, in 1946. He worked as a machinist and tool and die maker for over 40 years. Faith, family, and friends were very important in his life. John loved tending his garden, tinkering in his garage, and spending time with his family. He was a faithful member of St. Anthony Church and St. Bernadette Church for many years and sang in the choir. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
John received loving and compassionate care from his children in the home of his son. John is survived by his daughters, Mary Kay (Gary) Nelson of AZ, Susan (Glen) Hammack, Judi (Joel) Blomberg, and his son, Tom, all of Rockford; 8 grandchildren, John (Angea), Joann, Jeffrey (Carey), Mark, Andrew, Allison, Alex and Bryan; 2 step grandchildren, Teresa (Billy) and Eric (Barb); 2 great granddaughters, Cheyenne and Ella; 4 step great grandchildren, Jayden, Sophia, Jackson and Sydney; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Ann, parents, 2 sisters and their spouses, an infant brother, 3 sisters-in-law and their spouses, 3 brothers-in-law and their spouses, nephews, a niece, and his dear daughter-in-law, Karen Dal Santo.
Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2400 Bell Ave., Rockford, IL, 61103. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until time of Mass. Burial will conclude in Calvary Catholic Cemetery immediately following Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Bernadette Catholic Church and Northern IL Hospice, 4215 Newburg Rd., Rockford, IL, 61108.
