Gordon L. Wait

Gordon L. Wait, 81, of Cherry Valley, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday, September 5, 2016 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. He was born on March 30, 1935 in Belvidere, the son of Lyle and Myrtle (Buffington) Wait. After high school, he proudly served in the United States Army, where he served in the Korean War. He spent many wonderful years working as a farmer, and later in real estate. He was a proud member of the Belvidere VFW and American Legion. Gordon, and his wife, enjoyed spending the winter months in Harlingen, TX. He enjoyed singing, dancing, and was a devoted Chicago Cubs fan. Gordon was larger than life, and will be missed by all those who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Dorie Wait; his children Greg (Jodi) Wait, Debbie (Jim) Bodey, Terri Rohrer(Mike Bullard), Angie Wait-Weber (Ken Redeker), and Tammy Hernandez (Noe Mascote); step-son, Bradley (Megan) Fleming; sisters, Dixie (Jerry) Adkins, Audrey (Jim) Jones, Judy Wait, and Janet (Jason) Dodd; his in-laws Sue (John) Shott, Reverend Richard (Ibon) Whippler, Prossie (Karen) Whippler, Kim (Terry) Neises, and Cathy Folk; 18.5 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Predeceased by his parents, son, Andrew Wait, first wife, Donna Jo Wait, and parents in-law.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel. A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2016 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, and will continue Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
