Daniel "Dan" Lee Smith

Daniel L Smith, 90, of Rockton, IL, passed away on November 27th. He was born on June 24, 1933, to Spurgeon and Ethel Carver Smith in Byron, Illinois. He was raised by his aunt and uncle Bob and Florence Cox. Dan graduated in 1951 from Byron High School. He served in the Navy from 1951 to 1956, last stationed at Point Magoo, CA. He attended Denver University and Bradley University. Dan married Marilyn Powell on February 1, 1958. They celebrated 54 years of marriage before she passed away on June 20, 2012. During his retirement he was an active volunteer, driving Vets to medical appointments and delivering blood for the Northern Illinois Blood Bank. He enjoyed gardening and bird watching. Dan was well known for his witty sense of humor.

Dan is survived by his children Laurie (Bruce), Julie, Tim (Janet)and Tom (Lorelei). Grandchildren Bridget (James), Zach (Bri), Kelsey (Logan), Brianna, Jordan, Dylan, and 8 great grandchildren.

A celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 14th, 2024, 2:00 pm, at  the Roscoe VFW, 11385 2nd St, Roscoe, IL 61073. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. Please share memories and condolences online.
