Carl C. Sciortino, 87, Rockford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 2, 2011. He was born April 26, 1923, in Rockford, the son of Salvatore and Rose (Torretta) Sciortino. Carl was a radio operator in the Army during WWII serving in the European Theatre from 1943 until 1946. In July of 1947, Carl married Helen Latino and was happily wed for 55 years, until she passed away in May, 2003. He worked as a machinist for Rockford Products and retired in 1985 after 42 years. Carl also assisted his in-laws with the family business running the Royal Casino. Carl's two daughters and their children were the center of his life and he supported their every endeavor. He enriched his grandchildren's lives with his endless adventures from his Army experiences. He loved his many nieces and nephews deeply. Survived by his daughters, Rosemary (Craig) Mitckes and Marijo (Dan) Boyle, grandchildren, Moriah, Carl John, Daniel, and Mary Margaret; brother, Joseph Sciortino, and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Salvatore and Rose and his sister, Angie Ciochetti.Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, April 9, 2011, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2400 Bell Av. Rockford, IL 61103. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation from 9:00AM until prayers at 9:45AM on Saturday at the church.
