Anthony F. Costello, 94, former Rockford resident, passed away on February 2, 2011.nbsp; Anthony (Tony) lived in Las Vegas the last two years of his life.nbsp; He lived a life with devotion to his family, church and his country.nbsp; As a member of St. Patrick Church he was a volunteer for The Closet and enjoyed being a member of the Silver Shamrocks.nbsp; An avowed Democrat for many years, he believed in equity for the working person and voted his conscience accordingly.nbsp; His family was very important to him.nbsp; One of eight children, he was the last survivor of his family.nbsp; Anthony was especially proud to have served as a captain in the Army from 1941-1946.nbsp; He earned commendation during his service in World War II.nbsp; After his discharge, he and his wife, Frances, raised nine children.
Anthony is survived by his children, Michael, Maureen (Roger) Fox, Tom (Sallie), Tim (Alice), Dennis (Ann), Donald (Jody), Marianne, Darlene and Andrea (Mark) Busse; grandchildren, Kathleen Filippo, Dan (Carolyn) Fox, Cassandra (Jamie) McGoldrick, Rose, David, Beth, Justin, Jason, Hesper (Jake) Wolters and Lorraine Busse.nbsp; He was honored to have 3 great-grandchildren; Josh and Jonah Filippo and Mackay McGoldrick, as well as many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.
Anthony is predeceased by his wife, Frances in 1990 and his parents, as well as his brothers, sisters, and their spouses.nbsp; He married Rose Duguid in 1993 and they enjoyed many activities together.nbsp; Tony lived life, was loved by all who knew him, and sang his way through the final years of his life.nbsp;
A Mass of Celebration will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 18, 2011 in St. Patrick Church.nbsp; Burial in Calvary Cemetery.nbsp; Visitation from 3-6 p.m. Thursday in Fitzgerald Funeral Home amp; Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. with a Rosary to be recited at 3:30 p.m. Visitation also from 9-9:45 a.m. Friday in the church.nbsp; In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph Indian School, P.O.
