Patricia A. Martin, 81, of Rockford, passed away at 8:40a.m. on Monday, February 22 in her home after a short battle with lung cancer. Pat was born Nov. 8, 1928 in Afton, Wis., to Merwyn and Josephine Martin. She spent her childhood in Janesville and later moved to Rockford in 1965, where she worked as a design draftsman for Barber-Colman from where she retired after 25 years.


Pat loved all sports. She enjoyed playing golf, bowling and in her younger days, played baseball with the Janesville Gems. She was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. Her t.v. programs were mostly sports programs. She loved country-western music and loved dancing to it.


She is survived by her brother, James Martin of Florida; sister, Alice Morehart of Milton, WI; longtime friend and companion, Jo Romano; numerous nieces, nephews and their children; her precious kitties, Sadie, Stella, Ruby, Shirley and Big Ed, whom she adored.


The family would like to thank Northern Illinois Hospice for their loving care and kindness to Pat in her last days. Also, special thanks to Pat’s niece, Vickie Bullis, for her tireless assistance of transporting Pat to medical appointments and her loving home care to her beloved Aunt Pat.


Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am on Friday, February 26 in Holy Family Catholic Church, 4401 Highcrest Rd. Rockford. Visitation will be held from 4- 7pm on Thursday, February 25 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford, IL  61108. Burial in Calvary Cemetery in Wisconsin with Fr. Daniel P. Finnane officiating. Memorials may be made to Pat’s favorite charity, PAWS.
